This New Feature In Cortana Will Blow Your Mind

When we talk about virtual assistants, Siri and Google Now are among the first ones that come to our mind. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of virtual assistants out there available for different mobile platforms but not every one of them is as good as Siri or Google Now. However, there is one that is slowly coming into limelight. Yes, we’re talking about Cortana, the virtual assistant introduced by Microsoft for its Windows platform. While initially it was built exclusively for Windows powered devices, Microsoft later rendered support for iOS and Android as well.
Cortana is veritably one of the finest personal assistants for smartphones and PCs. It combines some of the most powerful features and supports an insanely large number of voice commands. You can ask her to remember things for you, you can ask her to make a call or send a text message. It can search music for you, play songs for you or even sing for you if she’s asked to do so. Besides, Cortana stands off the charts when it’s about accuracy.

What’s New In Cortana?
As the time goes by, Cortana is getting smarter and smarter with new features and enhancements coming its way. As per the latest update, Cortana now acquires data and useful info from your mails and messages. This data is then used to remind you of certain tasks that are scheduled to be done in the near future. You don’t even have to ask Cortana to set a reminder or let you know when the time comes. It takes care of that itself and keeps reminding you till the D-day arrives. This is said to be the coolest feature added to any virtual assistant till date and with this, Cortana even leaves Siri, Google Now and Alexa behind.
The Significance
No matter how smart you are, you still tend to forget things. There’s no specific reason behind that. It’s just the natural tendency of human brain to forget things. Sometimes, you just can’t afford to forget things especially when some important date is around the corner. But there’s so much in your head that it just slips off somehow no matter how hard you try. Well, in that case, this new reminder feature in Cortana might be invaluable for those who tend to forget things.
Suppose on a particular day, you promised your boss that you’ll be sending him a report by midnight. You are well aware of that by the time you leave your office. Then you reach home all tired and just as you head off to bed to take some rest, one of your friends arrives. You spend the rest of the night gossiping and reminiscing some good old days. While you still remember that you have to forward that mail, by the time your friend leaves, it just slips off your mind and you head straight to the bed and doze off immediately.
It happens, right? And when you reach your office in the morning, your boss is mad at you and you don’t even know why. And then it goes like, ‘oops!’

How Cortana Helps?
Now imagine the same scenario with Cortana by your side. Just as you reach home, Cortana reminds of the report. Just as you go to bed, it again reminds you. When you are in the middle of a conversation with your friend, it still reminds you and when you are finally alone, it reminds you again. Now that seems quite obvious that you won’t forget it at least at this point. Cortana does it with the most advanced form of Machine Learning derived from the Azure AI suite.
This new feature is only available in US as of now and works on Windows 10 enabled devices while the support for Android and iOS is coming soon!
