Streaming music market leader Spotify has acquired a startup called Niland this week. Niland is a small music artificial intelligence startup and will now help Spotify in improving recommendations and search. Spotify is happy to welcome nailand in their family and announced the acquisition on their website. Niland raised its funding from French investor and was founded in 2013 and within few months it reached 20 million users. Spotify uses collaborating filtering which includes information about multiple artists, songs, or albums. To compete with its competitors, Spotify has put efforts in intelligence software. Spotify announced the purchase of MediaChain labs which is a blockchain startup which works for registering, tracking, managing content. News of niland acquisition comes after the spotifi’s purchase announcement. Many competitors are finding ways to develop customized playlists.

Niland delivers song recommendations to its users. This act will prove to be the game-changer for Spotify as AI technology can be instrumental in improving search and recommendations of songs. Niland offered a specialized search engine to publishers and content creators, through which they were able to upload tracks and receive the similar song list. Niland fits perfectly for the Spotify team due to its new approach to AI and machine learning. Thus they are able to deliver the personalized song listening journey. Interestingly it can extract data based on genre, mood, voice tone, and instrumentation. In the near future, spotify will integrate AI based engine into its app.
