Siri vs Cortana The Quest To Be The Best

Posted By : Anirudh Bhardwaj | 22-Jul-2016

Siri voice control is one of the most exciting functionalities offered by Apple and Siri remains the best virtual assistant you can get as of now. Alas, there’s no certainty for the future as the competition is rising and many leading tech giants like Microsoft, Google and Amazon are coming up with their own versions of voice controlled digital assistants. One such example is Microsoft’s Cortana which happens to be the voice-controlled virtual assistant for Windows powered devices.

There have been many improvements and enhancements in Siri over the last couple of years. And the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system iOS 10 enables the use of Siri for all the non-apple apps as well. Nevertheless, Siri will now be available on tvOS 10, marking its arrival on Apple TV for the first time. But one thing that has somewhat dismayed the Apple junkies is that Siri isn’t yet available on Mac OS while Cortana has successfully made its way to the Windows PC as well as Lumia smartphones with the launch of Windows 10. That’s the reason for the constant comparison of Cortana with Siri. Many people are already calling it a “Siri Killer.” Let’s find out why!

Is Cortana Really A Siri Killer?

A “Siri Killer.” That’s what most people are calling Cortana these days. First of all Cortana is comprehensive solution for all the Windows 10 powered devices. Secondly, the Cortana app works pretty well on iOS powered devices as well. But that definitely doesn’t make it a replacement for Siri is an in-built functionality in iOS devices. So in fact, you can use both the features on iOS devices if you have the Cortana app installed in your iPhone or iPad. But that doesn’t make it a Siri Killer.

As a matter of fact, Siri can do a lot of things that Cortana can’t. For instance, Siri can also be used for controlling HomeKit accessories. You can ask Siri to turn on the lights, you can ask her to turn on the TV. You can even ask her to even open the garage doors by using it with Raspberry Pi. So all in all, Cortana is good but it’s definitely not a Siri Killer.

Better & Improved Google Now

When both iOS and Windows have their own personal assistants, how can Android stay behind for long. The Google Now voice control feature is now more powerful than ever. With the release of its latest android version i.e. Marshmallow, Google has added many new and exciting voice commands to Google Now. For instance, now the android users will be able to turn on bluetooth, WiFi and Data Connection by giving direct commands via Ok Google. As exciting as it sounds, you can now ask google to open new tabs for you. It also helps you open any app installed in your Smartphone without doing it manually. At some point in time, Google Now could only be used for opening Google based applications like Youtube and Chrome but after the last update, it works well for opening any third party application as well.

So this was all about the Virtual Personal assistants like Cortana, Siri and Google Now. Let us know if you want to add something else.
