Apple TV is a high-end entertainment device that takes OTT streaming to the next level. It comes with powerful features and provides a magnificent TV viewing experience to the customers. The latest addition to the family is Apple TV 4K which offers 4K UHD streaming with HDR imagery. Apart from that, it also offers improved Siri features and faster navigation controls. The Siri TV remote has also been revamped; it is now more sleek, compact and easy to use. However, it is not necessarily the only way to control your Apple TV. There are several other ways too. Perhaps the best way to do that is through the iPhone.
Let’s say you lost your Siri remote somehow or kept it somewhere that you don't remember anymore. So instead of minutes or even hours of struggle to find it, you can simply use your iPhone as a backup option. Yes, you can easily set up your iPhone to work as a Siri remote to your Apple TV. In fact, it’s even better to use your iPhone as a remote, partly because typing on your phone’s touch keypad is a lot easier and saves time as well. So let’s see how you can set up your iPhone and use it as a Siri remote.

Download the Remote App
The first step of course, is to download and install the Apple TV remote app on your iPhone. You can download it for free from the App Store. Make sure that both your iPhone and Apple TV are connected to the same WiFi network.
Setting It Up
After installing the app, you need to run a quick set up to configure it for your Apple TV. Let’s see how.
Setting up the remote app is quite simple. Once it is installed on your iPhone, you can get started in few simple steps. Just follow the steps below.
- Turn on your Apple TV.
- Launch the Apple TV remote app on your iPhone.
- Wait for it to detect your Apple TV; it will automatically connect once the Apple TV detected nearby.
If not so, chances are, both your devices are not connected to the same wireless network. Make sure they are on the same network.
Using The App For The First Time
Once the App is connected to your Apple TV, you can use it to control the features of your Apple TV. As a replacement to the Touch pad mounted on top of the Siri remote, you get a large open section at the top of the app interface. Just slide your finger slowly over it and tap anywhere to select an option.
The app also features a Menu button just like the Siri remote. Apart from that, you also get three more buttons down below. The first one is a Play/Pause button which can be used while you are watching something on TV. In the middle is the Airplay button which can be used for mirroring the contents of your iPhone on to the TV screen (Screen Mirroring). The last button at the bottom right corner is to evoke Siri. You can use this button to voice control the features of your Apple TV.
So that’s pretty much how you can use your remote app to control the features of your Apple TV. Stay tuned and check out our previous blogs on Apple TV to know more about the cool features.
