How To Fix Boot Loop Issues In Android

Posted By : Anirudh Bhardwaj | 28-Oct-2016

Bootloop issues are quite common in android smartphones. This generally happens when you are experimenting a lot with your smartphone. For instance, modding and rooting your phone might result in a recurring android start screen which doesn’t change even after keeping your phone idle for hours. If that happens, it means your android phone is stuck in a boot loop.

While it mostly happens for custom ROM users and modders, it doesn’t mean that normal users won’t face these issues. It can happen with any android user and boot loop might happen even after performing a soft reboot. But don’t worry! It is fixable. And with little efforts, you can fix the bootloop problem all by yourself. The best solution is to reboot your device in recovery mode and wipe out your system data and cache. This tweak will work in most of the devices. Just follow these simple steps.

For Devices With Removable Battery

  • Switch off your smartphone.

  • Remove the battery. Remove the SIM card and MicroSD card as well.

  • Wait for five minutes and re-insert the battery.

  • Boot your device in CWM Recovery.

Note: The process of booting into recovery mode might be different for different devices. All you can do is try different key combinations.

In most of the devices, you will enter the recovery mode by pressing start button, volume up and volume down buttons altogether. If that doesn’t work, try pressing volume up+start button or volume down+start button. For samsung phones, it works by pressing volume up, home and power button. In tablets, you can do so by pressing volume up and power button. Once you have entered the CWM Recovery, it goes like this.

  • Go to “advanced” navigating through the down keys and select “wipe dalvik cache.” (Press start button for selecting)

  • Go back to the main menu.

  • In the same way, select “wipe data factory reset.”

  • Select “Yes” and proceed further. It’ll redirect you to the main menu. If not, go back manually.

  • This time, select “wipe data factory reset.” The process might take up to 5-10 minutes. So don’t panic.

  • Go back and this time, select “wipe cache partition.” This will be done in seconds.

  • Go back and select “wipe media” (if the option is available). This will take another few seconds.

  • Go back once again and select “reboot system now.”

That’s it! Your phone should work after the reboot. However, it might take 2-3 minutes and then you have to set up your phone just as you did when you switched it on for the first time. That’s it! Your phone is as good as new.

For Devices With Non-Removable Battery

Many latest android smartphones have batteries that can’t be removed by normal procedures. So you don’t have any choice. Well in that case, you just have to switch off your smartphone and keep it off for up to five minutes. By doing that, you ensure that there isn’t any charge left in the device. After that, switch it “on” such that it boots directly into recovery mode. The remaining procedure is exactly same.
