Wowza Streaming Engine is a comprehensive software for the Streaming Media Server developed by Wowza. Formerly known as Wowza Media Server, it serves as an interactive and high performance media streaming platform for a wide range of streaming applications. Wowza Streaming Engine finds its use in Live and Video On Demand (VOD) streaming. It is also used in real time chatting applications and remote recording. As exciting as it sounds, Wowza also lets you create and manage your own Live and VOD streams. Besides, it is very easy to use and boasts a simple and intuitive software architecture.

But before you start exploring the capabilities of Wowza Streaming Engine, you need to install and configure it for your respective OS. Wowza Streaming Engine is available on three major platforms including Mac, Windows and Linux. In this tutorial, we’re going to teach you how to install and configure it on Windows.

Installing Wowza Streaming Engine

Installing Wowza on Windows is very easy and the procedure is quite simple. First of all, you need to download the installation wizard for the Wowza Streaming Engine from the Wowza’s official download webpage. You can either go for the trial version or you can purchase the full version, whichever suits you better. For the paid version, you have two choices. You can either opt for the monthly edition where you’ll be paying $65 per month or you can opt for the perpetual edition where you’ll have to make a one time payment and then it’s all free to use. But if you’re going to use it for the first time, it is better to opt for the trial version first. So, here are the steps that you need to follow for downloading and installing Wowza Streaming Engine.

• Open wowza.com in your browser and click on Get My Free Trial.

• Select Wowza Streaming Engine and click on Free Trial button.

• It will take you to a registration page where you’ll need to enter your personal details. Fill out the details and click on Start My Free Trial.

• Once you are done with that, you will be redirected to a confirmation page where can download the Trial Version.

• Select your Operating System (Windows in this case) and click on the download button.

• The Wowza SE installer will be downloaded automatically.

• When the download process completes, launch the installation wizard and follow simple instructions to install it properly on your Windows PC.

• While installing the software, you will be asked to enter the license key for the same. The license key is mailed to the email id that you provide while downloading the Wowza setup.

• Enter the license key and click on Next.Then you’ll be asked to set a username and password for your Wowza Streaming Engine. Enter the same to further proceed with the installation process.

• The username and password that you enter will be used to access the Wowza Streaming Engine so don’t forget the credentials.

• That’s it! Click on finish and installation will complete.

How To Configure It For The First Time?

After completing the installation process, you need to configure the Wowza Streaming Engine. First of all, launch the software and log in with the username and password that you provided at the time of installation. After that, you’ll be redirected to the homescreen where you can manage your connections. That’s all it takes to configure. The trial version lets you deploy one VOD and one live application to the online server. Once you are done with all that, you can play a test VOD stream by click on the Test Players button at the bottom right corner of the homescreen.
